Sofa. Sofa. Sofa.

Posted by Debi Hart, Guest Blogger on Jan 24th 2019

Have you ever been tempted to buy a sofa online? Just so you don’t feel the pressure of the sales tag team coming at you from every direction on the furniture showroom floor. After Hurricane Harvey, my husband and I decided to do some retail therapy. Oh, my goodness, it was more like a survival of the fittest!

We tried several different approaches.

Leave Us Alone, We’re Just Looking

I think we got all of our steps and squats in those shopping outings. I can’t tell you how many times we spotted ‘the sofa’ across the showroom, we made our way past the sales tag team and sat. Then we repeated that again about ten times. Some sofas were an immediate ‘no’ because we either sunk so low or we were just not comfortable. Sofa. Sofa. Sofa. Where is the perfect sofa?

We Found It, Now Come Sell It to Us

Guess the sales tag team gave up because when we were ready to buy, we couldn’t find a salesperson. Or, the one we did find was trying to hit his sales goal by assisting three customers at the same time, he lost our sale.

Online Shopping Not My Thing

I like to look online at a store’s website or their social media. I click around. I look. I dream. I wonder will that fit in my odd shaped living room. I like to follow local businesses and StarFine is on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and even Twitter. I like that the StarFine Sales Team monitors their social media. You can ask questions and they’ll actually answer you! After the style and fabrics have been selected, I like to go into the store so I can see if the quality looks as good as it does on the website or social media. Little did I know, I’m kind of like the perfect sofa buyer. Here’s why...

4th Generation, Family Owned

I’ve actually visited the showroom in Galveston twice. No intention to make an immediate purchase but I just wanted to see what they had to offer. Both times, I was greeted and was welcomed to roam around. Their customer service area was easy to find and those ladies found a design expert for me as soon as I was ready. I even got to meet the owner, Jody Stein. This guy is the real deal. Chatting with him was easy. How often do you get to meet the owner? So, I asked him, “How to Buy a Sofa” and this is what he shared with me in just a few quick minutes.

LOOK

After looking at a selection of sofas, is there one that made you think, ‘I really like that sofa.”

TOUCH. FEEL. SIT.

Test out your selection. Touching it, feeling it and sitting on it to make sure it's comfortable.

STILL INTERESTED

If you're still interested after that, then you’ll want to ask these questions:

What type of material is it made of?

What type of foam cores are in there?

What type of support is built in?

Are the backs and sides hard padded?

Jody said, “If all this is up to your satisfaction, then you have selected a great quality sofa.”

We’ll talk about these questions in the near future.

If you’d like to stop by for a cup of coffee with Jody, you can usually find him at the Galveston store, located at 3727 Broadway on Saturday mornings. He’ll be happy to visit with you and introduce you to a new shopping experience at StarFine Furniture.
